Oh Joy!… Creative Inc.

23 Aug

Oh, joy is right! The new venture by Joy Cho of Oh Joy! and Meg Ilasco of designers library, Creative Inc. is “The Ultimate Guide to Running a Successful Freelance Business”.  The book sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it, although I must admit the above video is what first caught my attention. If that weren’t enough, the two lovely ladies behind Creative Inc.  will be doing a book tour, hitting San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.  How exciting!  I think I will wait until then to purchase my book, so I can do so in person and hopefully get a signed copy!

How To Dress For Success… Edith Head

15 Aug
I came across these amazing illustrations on while browsing LiveJournal here and immediately rushed to amazon.com and purchased the book How To Dress For Success by Edith Head.  I simply had to have it for my collection.  Edith Head is one of the greatest costume designers of all time with some of the greatest films of all time under her belt, including my all time favorite’s Funny Face and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  She was sought after by most of the leading ladies of the 40’s & 50’s including Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn.  I mean that’s SOME track record if you ask me.  Edith Head was an amazing women who could make the ordinary, extraordinary!
She sure had a lot of wisdom to share as well, my favorite being… “You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it”.  Working in the fashion industry I can tell you know truer words have ever been spoken.

What’s Cookin’ Good Lookin’ ?

25 Oct

Lately I have really been enjoying a nice home cooked meal. Actually I have always enjoyed one but I guess what has changed is that its actually ME doing the cooking. With my new found hobby comes a new found wish-list filled with kitchen supplies, aprons and cookbooks galore. While in North Carolina this past week I made a little stop at Anthro and came across The Illustrated Kitchen Bible, which I HAD to have. Give me anything with good visuals and I’m sold! With over 1,000 pictures of every recipe featured you can actually visualize what it is that you are about to make as apposed to just hoping it comes out the way its supposed to look.

The first would be great for any good Martha Stewart in training, but the second is a must! The Illustrated Quick Cookbook featured below specializing in quick, after work cheap eats will be in heavy rotation in my place. I didn’t purchase either of the books just yet, as I had to fly back to NYC and they were rather heavy, but I have requested both for my birthday (fingers crossed I get them).

Novel(ty) Illustration

29 Aug

I have said it before and I will say it again… I LOVE Ruben Toledo’s illustrations. Toledo has teamed up with Penguin Classic’s to create the fabulous, “couture inspired covers” featured above. I found out about this must have collection via The Daily Candy Weekend Guide. I actually am a little embarrassed to admit that I have not read a single one of these, but certainly plan to now. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be caught on the train reading Pride & Prejudiced with such a fabulous cover as this.

Penguin Classic’s are in my opinion all around chic and fabulous! Check out the newly released cloth bound classics I discovered via Design*Sponge.
